Despite describing his political opponents in the All Progressives Congress (APC) as cowards, Imo State, Governor Rochas Okorocha, also declared that even those he thought were his allies also betrayed him during last Saturday’s ward congresses of the party.
The governor did not spared the security agencies in his rain of accusations as he accused the security agencies of compromising their duties during the exercise.
Okorocha made this statement in Owerri, the state capital on Monday at the Government House Victory Chapel where he addressed some of his aides and supporters on the outcome of the party election.
Okorocha said: “I never knew that all my political opponents and detractors in the party are cowards. These include Senator Godwin Ararume, Prince Eze Madumere, my deputy governor, Senator Osita Izunaso, Sir Jude Ejiogu, Senator Benjamin Uwajimogu and Senator Hope Uzodimma. I caught all of them red handed at Osita Izunaso’s house with the electoral committee officials writing names in the original result sheets.
“I ordered the police to arrest the electoral committee chairman, which the police did, but immediately after the door of Izunaso, the man disappeared. This is my first time of seeing a man disappearing in broad day light,” the governor complained.
Okorocha said that while his supporters were busy preparing for wards congress in their various wards his political rivals had advanced plans and hijacked the original result sheets from the electoral committee members.
The governor however assured his supporters that he would overcome all the plans of his political enemies and detractors as far as the congress result was concerned, stating that he was in touch with the relevant national stakeholders of the party who will take necessary actions regarding the congress.
Okorocha had on several occasions sworn to deal decisively with all his political enemies and detractors however lamented the high level betrayal even from people he trusted as well as security agencies in the state.
On another note, the staging ground of the Senator Ararume led coalition along MCC Road, Owerri has turned into a beehive of activities since Saturday giving indications that the people are happy with the outcome of the Ward congress. Okorocha have also swung into a sacking frenzy as he had ordered the sack of several government appointees suspected to be loyal to the Ararume led coalition. There are indications that many more people will be deserting the camp of the embattled governor and his son-in-law Uche Nwosu as there have been reports of night visits by government appointees to homes of the coalition members.
We will keep you posted.
