Chieftains of the Imo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday applauded the party’s national leadership for upholding the verdict of the Appeal Panel that investigated petitions arising from the conduct of Ward Congresses in the state. In a letter addressed to the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the APC chieftains maintained that despite the protest by Governor Rochas Okorocha, proper Ward Congresses were held in Imo State on March 5.
They declared that they have video recordings of voting during the Wards congress and that some aides of Governor Okorocha were also captures in the video jubilating after participating in the congress when they initially thought the final outcome will be in their favour. They declared that the Imo state governor is kicking against the congress as the outcome has put paid to his intention to foist his son-in-law on the state as his successor. “We write to thank you and the entire National Working Committee of our great party for standing firm to the rules and guidelines of our party and upholding our duly conducted and video recorded congresses across our State, in spite of the unruly and unlawful conduct/misconduct of our state governor, who happens to be one of our party members.” The APC chieftains declared that the governor’s assertion that some people opposed to his camp were caught in an hotel with the result sheets of the Imo Ward primaries. “He also has forwarded to you his videos of those he caught with result sheets (which the party did not report missing). The governor having arrested those people (who are contractors of Government House Owerri), at the same hotel where his son-in-law was staying, and having called the police and the media himself, proceeded to conduct the investigation himself.
“He has also forwarded edited clips of a video wherein the State party chairman (whom he had kept in unlawful custody along with some congress committee member who he abducted) had stated that he was not aware that the congresses were going on at the time(being in custody).”
They added that Governor Okorocha has become a liability to the APC because of his poor performance and penchant for frivolities. “The State lies comatose in the face of the profligate nonsense of his governance or non-governance that has turned Imo State to the butt of all jokes, be it the constant invitation of foreign heads of government to massage his imaginary status of a leader of Imo State (nation) by molding their statues, or creating ministries to equate them, such as that of Happiness, or trying to install those of his blood line in offices.” The letter to the APC National Chairman was jointly signed on behalf of Imo APC stakeholders by Senators Ben Uwajimogu, Hope Uzodinma, Ifeanyi Araraume and Osita Izunaso.
Others are Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Hon. Mike Ohia and Hon. Austin Chukwukere.
