Following Saturday's humiliation and defeat of the Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha by the coalition of Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Senator, Osita Izunaso, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, Sir Jude Ejiogu, Hon Emeka Nwajiuba amongst others, there suddenly seem to be renewed love for APC all over the state cutting across party lines as members of even rival political parties join to celebrate the liberation of Imo State which the defeat of the outgoing governor last Saturday signified.
Despite his reported misrule, the members of the party especially stakeholders were irked by Okorocha's desire to install a member of his family who also happened to come from Orlu zone which has enjoyed many years of rule than other zones in the state as his replacement.
His draconian policies which included banning keke in the state without providing suitable replacement, demolition of private property and public markets without compensation leading even to the death of an eleven year old boy, forcing motorists to put posters of his son-in-law on their vehicles before they can operate in the state, nonpayment of almost seven years of pension, slashing of civil servants salaries has all seemed a targeted ploy to turn the people of Imo State against the party in the state but with his defeat on Saturday, Imo people now believe there is still hope in APC afterall.
"I didn't want to vote APC before when I thought Rochas will defeat Ararume but now I will vote for them," an Imolite said to our correspondent that went around the state to sample opinion of the people.
"Rochas thinks he is God," another person said. "This is part one of his ultimate failure."
"He brought this upon himself," another person said. "If he had given support to Jude Ejiogu or Madumere who are both from Owerri zone instead of trying to force his son on us, he wouldn't have been summarily disgraced. Did you watch him in that video talking in frustation?"
"I am a strong PDP man but with what I saw on Saturday, I am taking up APC membership, Ararume and his group have shown they are real men with true love for the people and determined to make sure Imo State does not turn into Okorocha state." Somebody said
Another person said "After Uche he will probably install that his son he has been parading around, the one he took to see Mr President. Rubbish. I am proud of Izunaso and co. There are good men in APC and yes you asked if I will vote for APC, if this tempo continue then any of those men who dislodged Rochas can have my vote. They have proven to be men."
"Immediately I saw Sir Jude Ejiogu among the group," another person said. "I knew Imo is on the path of salvation. Rochas tried to silence him because he was always holding him back from being wicked to the people. If you notice my sister, immediately Jude Ejiogu left the government Rochas showed his true colors. I work at pension board and the only time pension was paid was when Jude was managing it and insisted that pensions be paid. After he left Rochas stopped paying pension. If Jude remains in APC then APC has my vote."
The comments were simila from everybody we encountered on thw streets of Imo State as the people are in jubilant mood since Saturday.
