Detectives of the Lagos State Police Command have foiled two attempted murder of women, who were drugged and defiled in hotels.
The incidents occurred at Wellwood and De-Didos hotels in Ajangbadi, a Lagos suburb.
The Nation learnt cases of drug-induced defilement and murder of women were becoming rampant at Ajangbadi hotels.
Briefing reporters on the foiled attempts, Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal said on May 24, Chibuzor Ayogu, 26, of 7, Abdullahi Street, Kirikiri, Apapa, was apprehended by workers at Wellwood Hotels after he tried to strangle his guest, Faith, 18, with a rope.
He said a distress call was received at the hotel, about 12:35 am, and when policemen got to the room, Faith was found with injuries.
“The victim narrated that, about 12:15 am, Ayogu came to her room. After sleeping with her, he brought out a rope, tied it round her neck and pulled her down.
“She said he tried to suffocate her by blocking her mouth and nostrils with a pillow. She said she was rescued by a worker of the hotel, who heard noise in her room.
“The suspect was arrested, and the rope with which he nearly killed the girl was recovered from him. He is yet to tell the police his motive for attempting to kill the victim.”
Faith, a petty trader, said the suspect mistook her for a commercial sex worker, and gave her N1,000 after they had sex.
She said: “I buy fairly-used clothes in Cotonou and sell them in Enugu. I live in Enugu. I met the young man on Wednesday night. I sat at the lobby of the hotel, drinking a beverage. He mistook me for a commercial sex worker.
“I told him I was not a sex worker, but a lodger. He said he liked me and wanted to have sex with me and I agreed. So, I took him to my room. After everything, he paid me N1,000. As I was about dropping the money for him, he used a rope to tie my neck. I started shouting and people rescued me.”
In a related incident, Precious, 28, reported to the police at Ajangbandi that Ekene Onyetube, 25, who she met last year on the social media, invited her to Lagos on May 3.
Edgal said: “The victim narrated that he took her to De-Didos Hotel in Shibiri, Ajangbadi, where he allegedly drugged, defiled and stole her phones and voter’s card. The suspect was arrested on May 25 through community partnership. His details were circulated to all hotels in the area and when he went to lodge in another hotel, he was arrested.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he hooked up the victim on HITWE (a social media platform). At the conclusion of investigation, the suspect will be arraigned. Youths should be mindful of who they interact with on the social media.
“They should be wary of those luring them with promises of gift, better life and must always seek the advice of their parents at all times about people making promises to them.
“The victim, who said she just finished the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), added that she believed the suspect must have drugged her after she left her drink to use the rest room.”
